2008 PCC Ride Schedule
Rides begin the week of April 14 and conclude on Saturday, August 30.
MONDAY
Moderate Ride: Level 2
Leaders: Anne Robin (356-1107, arobin@uiuc.edu), Jim Witte (356-8085, jim@thunderingbison.com)
Depart: Countryside School, corner of Kirby & Staley Road, Champaign.
Time: 6:00 p.m.
This is a moderate ride with an average speed of 13-15 mph, and is often the best-populated weeknight ride. Early season rides will be 15-20 miles, round trip. Distance will increase as the summer progresses but speed will not significantly increase. If possible, a rest/refreshment stop will be made along the route. Rides will visit neighboring communities. Emphasis is on socializing, not speed or performance. If you drive to the ride, please park at the easternmost part of the lot.
Monday Manic Ride: Level 3
Leader: Jim Pirzyk (898-1750, jim+pcc@pirzyk.org)
Depart: Countryside School, corner of Kirby & Staley Road, Champaign.
Time: 6:00 p.m.
This ride leaves at the same time and location as the Monday Moderate ride. Average speed is 15-18 mph for a distance of 20-35 miles. Like many rides, the distance will increase as the summer progresses. The group will stay together on the way out, but after the turn it may break up as some riders choose to increase the pace during the ride home. The group will ride using a pace line.
TUESDAY
Morning Tour: Level 2/3
Leader: Ed BonDurant (359-1529, bonduran@uiuc.edu)
Depart: Hessel Park Pavilion, Kirby Avenue, Champaign.
Time: 9 a.m. April & May; 8:00 a.m. (June)
You are invited to join with other PCC members on Tuesday morning each week for a pleasant riding experience. We will try to keep the ride time to about 2 hours early in the season and let it lengthen as the season progresses.
Pedaling for Pleasure: Level 1
Ride Leader: Peter Davis (352-7096/h, 352-7600/w, peter@champaigncycle.com)
Depart: Champaign Cycle, 506 S. Country Fair Dr., Champaign
Time: 6:30 p.m.
The emphasis for this ride is fun. We invite you to meet new people, gain experience riding in a group, and get answers to your questions about riding and equipment. We'll spend an hour and more exploring the near town countryside at a pace that will be comfortable for all. You can find new riding buddies, who ride at your pace, and network for your own rides at other times. This ride is suitable for beginning riders and any rider who wants to meet people and enjoy a leisurely evening ride. Mountain bikes are perfectly suitable for this ride. Start with Pedaling for Pleasure and stay, or graduate to some of the higher level rides. If YOU don't participate it just won't be as much fun.
(Tuesday continued)
WEDNESDAY
Long Ride: Level 4+
Leader: John Sturmanis (JMS@TMH-LAW.com)
Depart: Burwash Park, corner of Burwash & Prospect, Savoy
Time: 5:45p.m.
This is a ride for folks who want to ride hard and don't mind getting dropped. We usually average around 20-22mph doing distances of 30-50 miles. We try to keep the group together going out, but after the turn the attacks begin. Please come out and join us, and have a beer with us afterwards.

Leader: None

Time: 6:15 p.m.
This is a "show & go" ride. Typical rides will be 15-20 miles, but if YOU come out with a few buddies YOU call it!
THURSDAY
Women's Show & Go: Level 3
Leader: None
Depart: Meadowbrook Park, Windsor Road, Urbana
Time: 6:00 p.m.
This is a ride for women that averages 15-17mph at a distance of 20-25 miles with longer rides taking place later in the season. It is designed for women looking for a little more challenging ride while still being able to breathe and ride at the same time! Cyclists ride using pace lines. Emphasis is on having fun while developing cycling skills and learning how to ride as an organized group. The ride has been moved to Meadowbrook Park so women cyclists have the option of riding with the Level 3/4 Show & Go if they want a bit more of a challenge that particular evening or if there is a low turnout for the women’s ride; however, those opting for the Level 3/4 ride need to realize there is the possibility of being dropped.
(Thursday continued)
Show & Go: Level 3/4
Leader: None
Depart: Meadowbrook Park, Windsor Road, Urbana
Time: 6:00 p.m.
This is a show & go ride that averages 17-19 mph. Distance and pace increase as the season progresses. The possibility of being dropped does exist.

This pace is appropriate for both road and mountain bikes. Basic riding techniques and road courtesy will be reviewed. No one will be dropped from this ride.
